Alfalfa, also known as lucerne, is a perennial flowering plant in the pea family Fabaceae. Alfalfa is rich in chlorophyll, carotene, protein, calcium and other minerals, vitamins in the B group, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K. Alfalfa Hay is a high-fibre hay with high protein and high calcium ratios. Alfalfa is a perfect supplement for young or lactating small animals, adults should only be offered Alfalfa hay as a treat from time to time due to it’s high calcium content.
