Single-use Plastic Pet Food Packaging
The issue with dog food packaging is quite concerning. Unfortunately, even seemingly eco-friendly options such as paper bags are often lined with non-recyclable plastic, and cardboard boxes usually contain plastic bags, making them less helpful than they appear.
To put things into perspective, we crunched the numbers and discovered that, on average, a dog will go through 96 bags of dog food during its lifetime. This means that 96 single-use plastic bags will end up in landfills, unable to be recycled. To make matters worse, these bags can take up to 1,000 years to decompose into harmful microplastics that persist indefinitely. This situation is far from ideal, and we share your frustration!
What is a Circular Economy?
The circular economy is a sustainable framework that designs out waste such
as single-use plastic & reuses materials for as long as possible, to tackle climate change & preserve our environment.
By following these principles, a circular economy aims to create a more sustainable and resilient system that reduces waste, preserves resources, and promotes economic prosperity while minimising environmental harm.
How Our Closed Loop Dog Food Program Works
Step 1: Buy your first 5kg or 11kg container
Step 2: When empty, return it to our store and replace it for a refill.... too easy!
We clean all the empty containers and prepare them with refills conveniently found in our store when you need more dog food. This simple closed loop process allows you to keep single-use plastic waste out of landfill and our oceans.
Food for Thought...
The once hailed as a remarkable and versatile invention, single-use plastic, has now become so pervasive and challenging to eliminate that it has infiltrated our food, water, and even the most remote parts of the ocean.
If that alone doesn't give you pause to reconsider the use of single-use plastic, here's another alarming fact: you are consuming 202 pieces of microplastic today, tomorrow, and every day thereafter.
The long-term consequences of this on our health remain largely unknown. Since the 1950s, a staggering 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced, utilising approximately 8% of the world's oil reserves in the manufacturing process. Shockingly, nearly 50% of all the plastic ever produced has been generated after the year 2000, with a mere 9% having been recycled.
